Sustainable
LOOKS GOOD
AND FEELS GOOD.
Sustainability – a big word, often used for advertising purposes. But not waste paper for us: We have been living this principle, which determines our daily activities, for years. From the conservation of resources and our almost carbon-neutral production to our long-lasting client and employee relationships, we bring this concept to life and it defines our corporate culture. Our commitment to sustainability is not just a trend, but a firm part of our business philosophy.
MANUFACTURING
Aim: Climate Neutrality
Our responsibility lies in ensuring sustainable manufacturing. We are actively committed to becoming climate-neutral and are working on a comprehensive transformation concept with the aim of achieving climate neutrality. Unfortunately, there are currently no qualified consultants available for this process and the funding already promised by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection cannot be realised as expected. Nevertheless, we remain committed and will keep our website visitors continuously informed about our progress and further developments.
What we already do for sustainability
We have already taken a number of measures to make production in our carpentry more sustainable, regardless of a concept. In 2023, we were the only carpentry business in the Lüneburg, Braunschweig and Stade region to be awarded the sustainAability label by the state representation of the chambers of crafts and trades.
Whenever possible, we use local woods or certified plantation wood. If our clients require a special type of wood that does not fall into this category, we draw their attention to this and suggest alternatives. We are also happy to use MDF, which consists of very fine residual wood fibres and also has excellent characteristics for furniture construction.
In cooperation with a retail partner, we have succeeded in making innovative, low-emission organic MDF boards available in northern Germany and using them as the preferred option.
Since 1 December 2023, we have been converting our surfaces to water-soluble paints. However, it is not always possible to fulfil the sustainability aspect satisfactorily; compromises often have to be made. For example, we cannot completely do without solvent-based paints, as some special surfaces, such as high-gloss finishes, can only be produced with the help of solvents.
The resulting paint remains are environmentally harmful and must be specially treated as toxic waste. However, we have found a way to turn this “sin” into a “virtue”: We separate the solvents from the paint residues under heat in a special distillation unit.
We use the newly recovered solvents to clean brushes, spray guns, contaminated surfaces, etc. The remaining solid part of the paint residue can be safely deposited with household waste. In this way, solvents are recycled and hazardous waste is turned into normal, harmless waste.
For a long time, we have only used bubble wrap in exceptional cases. We protect our furniture with reusable fleece blankets made from recycled materials.
We are supplied with 100% green electricity by “Hamburg-Energie”. As soon as the sun shines, we have been able to supply ourselves with sustainable electricity from our own PV system since January 2022. This also includes “refuelling” our first e-vehicles (now 3!) with our own wallbox. Nevertheless, we try to be careful with our electricity consumption. In order to consume even less energy, our workshop was fully equipped with energy-saving LED lights back in 2019. Of course, we use green gas for heating.
In 2022, we went online with the “Restholz-Freunde”, an internet exchange we developed. The basic idea was to make valuable residual material from leftover orders available to the hobby or professional market instead of disposing of them in the rubbish and thus unnecessarily wasting resources and releasing CO”. Unfortunately, we were unable to convince enough supporters for this idea, so we’re putting the fair on hold for the time being.
However, this doesn’t stop us from reusing valuable leftover materials instead of throwing them away.
Since February 2020, we have been offsetting CO² emissions for our deliveries to the climate protection organisation „Atmosfair“.
Clients
Sustainable client relationships
Our favourite way of working? With satisfied clients. We cultivate a relaxed, appreciative and results-orientated cooperation. The result is positive feedback that promotes long-term and sustainable client relationships.
Many of our clients have been with us for over 30 years. Communication at eye level and reliability are among our fundamental values. We emphasise quality craftsmanship and on-time deliveries as well as a friendly tone throughout the team.
Customised solutions and authentic feedback are the basis for our successful projects. This also means that we prioritise and process complaints in an uncomplicated manner and always attach great importance to sustainable client relationships.
Employees
Sustainable employee relations
Treating each other with respect, communicating as equals and focussing on a pleasant working environment – these are the general conditions that give our employees the reason for a long-term employment relationship with us. This also includes the option of flexible working hours of between 30 and 40 hours per week or a 4- or 5-day week. In addition to fair pay, we also offer participation in the company’s success and compensate any overtime with time off in lieu.
Our corporate culture is based on values that enable us to maintain a sustainable relationship with our employees, always focussed on cooperation and in constant exchange with them. Our ears and doors are always open and invite open communication.
