Regional

We are here.

Digitalisation also plays an indispensable role in our trade.

Animated 3D drawings sent briefly by e-mail, video conferences, appointments arranged via WhatsApp, etc. But we can also be analogue: Our regional presence offers numerous advantages for clients, for the economy and for our environment.

Location

Our carpentry is located just outside Hamburg in the Altes Land region (approx. 45 minutes from Hamburg city centre). Some of our employees come from Jork and the surrounding area, but also from Hamburg.

Our locational advantage lies in the short distances to our clients and in our flexibility. This is also appreciated by our hotel clients, to whom we guarantee a maximum response time of 24 hours. Customer service, repairs, connection installations, subsequent deliveries etc. are dealt with quickly and personally. We can also record situations on site, take measurements, experience and discuss materials as samples – all this is possible thanks to our close proximity. Our customers are welcome to follow the progress of their furniture in person in our workshop.

Finally, as a modern cabinet maker, we can also be proud to support the local economy and be part of the local community. We see our role here not only in terms of tax payments, but also as an employer and trainer.

Jobs

A “permanent” team is a pipe dream – employees join and leave every company. More for some – less for others. Or sometimes more and sometimes less. Our aim is to keep staff turnover as low as possible, but we will still have to cope with three people leaving this year due to retirement, advanced training and the end of their apprenticeship. We would like to fill these vacancies.

But even if we don’t advertise any positions here, it’s always worth getting to know us today. After all, who knows exactly what tomorrow will bring? Are you interested? Then give us a call or send us an email: jobs@tischlerei-gilhaus.de.

PROMOTION OF YOUNG TALENTS

In order to get young people interested in our trade at an early stage and thus attract and promote suitable young talent, we need a dedicated programme and commitment.

We try to provide information about the profession of carpenter in various ways in the local and regional area.

But that’s not all: the offer has to be right. Only the joy of training, varied tasks, interesting projects and well-known clients as well as a relaxed and friendly working atmosphere can awaken and maintain enthusiasm.

Girl’s Day

On Girls’ Day or Girls’ Future Day, girls can spend a day in our workshop cutting, joining, gluing, sanding, oiling and, above all, getting to know the atmosphere in a carpentry workshop. We want to open our doors to girls, because there are still far too few women interested in training in the trades!  In our company history, we have trained four young women as carpenters to date. We currently have trainees in their second and one in their third year of training, which makes us very happy. We are on the right path!

Carrer Information Day

Since 2013, we have been co-organisers of the career information day at the Altes Land school centre in Jork and the Lühe school centre. A good platform to talk about the day-to-day work of a carpenter and to provide information about possible training and further education. But also to make first contacts.

Internships

We are happy to invite you to internships. On the one hand, to familiarise yourself with the carpentry profession and, on the other, to experience the working atmosphere in our workshop. Internships can take place voluntarily during the holidays, as part of a school internship or as part of the first year of vocational school.

Are you interested in further information or an internship? Then give us a call or write to us at

apprenticeship@tischlerei-gilhaus.de.

Apprenticeship

Of course we provide apprenticeships. Here in Lower Saxony, you first have to complete a year at the vocational school for wood technology, after which you can complete the second and third year of training at a company that you choose during the first year of training at the vocational school. Shortening the apprenticeship period is possible – depending on previous training. If the trainee is resident in Hamburg, it is also possible to be trained with us in accordance with the Hamburg conditions (start in the first year of training, block teaching).

Here you can find more information about an apprenticeship with us:

Apprenticeship

Since 2000, 23 trainees have learnt the profession of carpenter with us, two of whom have won the “Die gute Form” award and two of whom were the best of their year. We are currently training four apprentices.

Training to become a carpenter takes three years, the first year of which is spent entirely at a vocational college (BFS). In the second and third years, practical training takes place in the company with continued attendance at vocational school once a week.

Two-week machine and surface courses are also included. The apprenticeship is completed with the self-manufacture of a journeyman’s piece in addition to other final examinations.

If you are resident in Hamburg, you can train with us in accordance with the Hamburg conditions (start in the first year of training, block teaching).

What we offer:

We offer our apprentices comprehensive training that covers all areas of furniture production. Almost all production techniques are available, as well as a dedicated team with a wide range of expertise – both in traditional furniture construction and in CNC technology. We are also well up on all the different possibilities for surface design, are constantly trying out new materials, and are always keeping our eyes and ears open to discover and implement new trends. We mainly work for architects and designers from Hamburg, who constantly inspire us to find new solutions with exciting and challenging projects. In any case, there is plenty of variety in your apprenticeship.

And one more thing: we give bonuses to particularly committed apprentices! Regardless of the fact that every apprentice learns first and foremost for him/herself and his/her apprenticeship so that many doors open in the subsequent professional career, we reward above-average commitment with bonuses ranging from € 500 to € 1,000!

What we are looking for in an apprentice

We do not have a training manager who is solely responsible for the training of our apprentices. Training is provided by our competent team in accordance with the training framework plan. We expect our apprentices to actively ask questions if they don’t understand something, to think for themselves and to take on smaller tasks independently. We demand commitment, team spirit and a passion for the job. Nothing gives our journeymen and master craftsmen more pleasure than passing on their own knowledge and experience to interested apprentices.

Apply now for 2025!

The early bird… do you want to orientate yourself, position yourself or simply inform yourself? Give us a call! Many questions can be answered in a single conversation. If everything looks good, we will be happy to invite you to a short “getting to know you” internship. A previous internship is an advantage both for potential apprentices and for us. Firstly, to get to know each other, and secondly, to ensure that the chosen profession really is the right one.
